It’s 100% working. The cartool.co.uk factory engineer know it exactly because they had successfully unlocked 3 units for last 2 days using it. Each one works fine.
You don’t need to buy a new one PIC16FL88. You just have to program chip from your own device. After that when you run your SDconnect you will probably see that serial number, OS version of your device are changed into zeroes “0000”.
Don’t worry. Just change your C4 to factory state using buttons near by LCD (no need to explain “How to…” because it’s quite clear). After rebooting you’ll see actual SN, OS version and so on.
Also you can change serial number of your device. 24c02 contains it. After changing number just run “factory settings” function…other way it will not change.
After reboot you’ll probably see (on lcd of your device) your SN looks like “the number you’ve programmed into chip +1″… I mean 10001 inspite of 10000 for example and so on, but in SDNC tool kit you’ll see the real SN (10000), and after successfull reconfiguring your device you’ll see the right number on LCD of your C4.
I was using cheap ssop28 (0.65mm step) adapter and Pickit3 programmer to read/write PIC16lf88. This scheme made for Pickit3 OEM socket(ICSP).
Also I’ve got dumps of both flashes 29f016 and PIC18lf8680 if somebody need it.
Somebody asked me if I have dumps of both flash memories 29f016. Finally I’ve found them. In the picture below you can see marks A & B made with pencil and dumps in archive are also named according to signs in the picture.
One of archives (probably – device1) contains dumps from device which didn’t support command CE_flash_loeschen and the other one ( it seems device2) contains dums from working SDConnect.
I read them both using Triton 5.7 programmer with hand-made adapter for 8-bit flash memories (29XXXX).
If you try to read-write them using TL866/wizardprog/willem…then don’t waste your time. These programmers won’t do this job. But it was few years ago, so probably something changed.

1) Download free 2012 op-com software, and install the program.

2) Connect Op com 2012 china clone to the computer, and install the drivers correctly, Note: make sure disconnect the internet.
3) Open the OCflash and update the op-com with firmware 1.59 HEX file
4) Open the vaux-com software version is 2012.08, you can check opcom firmware version is updated to 1.59.
OPCOM 2012V Install Tips:
1. win7 or winxp system must not be installed with the system patch file dotnetfx35_SP1, or the opcom 2012v program can not run ok.
2. win7 users must open the software cd and watch the opcom 2012v installation video in administrator mode.

1) I did a quick test on Astra J 2013 year and it worked well. Connection to all modules. In some of them there are only error reading but anyway it is a big progress since the 2010 version and a light at the end of a tunnel for future updates.

Open Computer Management.
Select Device Manager>>Human Interface Devices>>USB Human Interface Device. Click on Minimize icon.
Found New Hardware Wizard: click “Install…(Advanced)” and Next.
Cancel tick on “Search removable media” and tick on “Include this location in the search”.
Click Browse, and select Desktop/drivers/win_2k_xp_2k3.
The software for XPROG-box programmer installation completes.

Click Save and name “m35080”.
Then close all the interfaces.
(with lots of tests using dev mode, it is turned out that original super mb star will be better than SDconnect c4, of course, just in terms of dev mode.)

Super MB Star top version Dev Mode is powerful. Some real customers feedback they use MB STAR (with DEV mode). It’s been really good so far and has been able to do a number of things so far. What they can do with Super MB Star Top Version DEV Mode shown as follows.
1). To enable cornering lights:

Set Turning Lamps to PRESENT
2). To enable tank content remaining (gallons left)

Set TANKINFO in REICHWEITENBILD to ENABLE
– You then need to reset the “kombiinstrument” (reboot)

Moreover, some things and take head up display for example, it will require a valid login to MB servers for an SCN code. SD Connect star Dev Mode is not ideal, you need Super mb star top version which comes with Dev mode and valid login info. There are systems (Vediamo / Monaco) that can program any controller, to any level but very unfriendly and would require an in depth knowledge of the control units. For this type of work, I would recommend you get an expert to look at it.
